Founder & Speaker
Ösel Hita Torres
Tenzin Ösel Hita, born in 1985, at just 14 months old, Ösel was formally recognized by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as the reincarnation (tulku) of Lama Thubten Yeshe, a highly respected Tibetan yogi, scholar, and spiritual pioneer. Lama Yeshe, together with Lama Zopa Rinpoche, co-founded the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) in the early 1970s.
Ösel is a radical freethinker, humanitarian, documentary filmmaker, musician, father, friend, and lifelong student—who was once a 21st-century Buddhist monk.
From 2008 to 2013, Ösel served on the FPMT Board of Directors, contributing his perspective and vision to the organization his predecessor had helped create.
Although recognized as a reincarnated teacher, Ösel has chosen to forge his own unique path. He is committed to the idea of collective awakening, and offers accompaniment through empathy, music, wisdom, and the diverse insights he has gained from life as a monk, filmmaker, and seeker.
Today, he continues to attend teachings and supports the global FPMT community by sharing love, experience, and spiritual insight with the wider FPMT family.
